Bodhi's Story
Bodhi River Wilbanks was born to Sydney and Andrew Wilbanks. He was our son, and along with his 4 siblings, he is loved completely.
At seven days old, Bodhi passed away from severe myocarditis and encephalomyelitis linked to an enterovirus infection. Losing him changed our lives forever. It also revealed how easily serious newborn illness can be underestimated, and how difficult it can be for families to get timely reassessment when their concerns are dismissed.
The Bodhi River Foundation honors Bodhi’s story through support and community care. We focus on practical tools that help families take action:
Newborn Illness Red Flags (what to watch for)
Rapid Recognition steps (what to do next)
Parent Support for hospital advocacy (how to speak up and escalate concerns)
Support for research and efforts that improve prevention and treatment of neonatal infectious disease
If Bodhi’s story helps even one family feel confident enough to ask for a recheck, request a second opinion, or seek urgent care, his life continues to protect others.
